Back and forth: radicalisation
Radicalism, extremism, terrorism... What's the difference? What does it all refer to? What is the mechanism behind the radicalisation process? What driving (f)actors make an individual, group or entire society drift towards extremist violence? In this lecture, you will gain a better understanding of the definitions, the phenomenon of cumulative radicalisation then and today. Not only will you gain insight into the latest process models, we will also consider the trigger factors that can accelerate, slow down or reverse the process of violence. Terrorism is a complex phenomenon that causes fear in society, but through a nuanced view we can better situate the essence and our approach.
