My research focuses on the complexity of collective violence from a criminological perspective. Specific topics: the social network of Holocaust perpetrators who were active in the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp (Karl H\u00f6cker case), the process of cumulative radicalisation (genocide and terrorism), Stanley Milgram's research (electroshock experiment), the (visual) representation of perpetrators... <\/p><\/div>\n

Our mission is to counter the growth of radicalisation and violent extremism (leading to terrorism) by providing a framework firmly based on respect for human rights, the rule of law and democratic values and methods. We aim to strengthen resilience against radicalisation and (violent) extremism by establishing formal and informal networks, providing a platform to seek and pursue common ground, and encouraging crossover initiatives and innovations. <\/p><\/div>\n

Kazerne Dossin: Memorial, Museum and Documentation Centre on the Holocaust and Human Rights<\/h5>\n

Kazerne Dossin is an intense and unique memorial site. The museum deals with the persecution of Jews, Roma and Sinti in Belgium. Until mid-1942, the occupying forces could count on the often supportive cooperation of authorities everywhere. How was this possible? Why this persecution? What did it mean for the victims and how did they react? Was there no resistance? These are key questions at the museum. Kazerne Dossin not only deals with the \u2018Belgian case\u2019, but is also a museum about mass violence. Taking the Holocaust as its starting point, Kazerne Dossin looks for timeless mechanisms of group pressure and collective violence that can, under certain circumstances, lead to mass murder and genocide. <\/p><\/div>\n
